Effects Of Using Twitter

August 16, 2009

It is as obvious to anyone who is using Twitter, that it has it’s emotional element to it. From my observation, Twitter brings out the best of human personas. Let’s face it, everyone and anyone who is following anyone will be in the end annoyed by each other. True? And why?

Why do people who create an account with Twitter, follow every Tom, Dick and Harry out there, reads every single tweet posted and in the end gets annoyed by it? And not only that, in the Twitter sphere, there are a lot of action. Meaning, arguments over Twitter, copying someone else’s tweet and quoting it without any credit to the original user, saying to someone things they’re doing it themselves eg; ranting, too many @reply, too many links posted, trivial tweets etc. This ultimately will get on your nerves. It builds up after a couple of months of usage. Then why, why in the world people keep using Twitter? There is no answer to that of course.

The other factor I have observed is that there is the invisible “competition” of who has the most Followers on Twitter(but nowadays it’s mostly spams who are following you). It all comes down to popularity contest. It brings you so much ego boost to yourself knowing there are over 500 people following you. It fills you with this illusion that people actually care about your daily life. It is somewhat sad to see in a way. Maybe it is to compensate the lack of people in your actual world-reality. Hey, maybe I’m all wrong here. Maybe there is an actual purpose in tweeting about our daily life(tweeting that you’re sneezing does counts).

I am a Twitter user. I have learn now to try not to post up too many links, or tweet too much in one day just so I don’t annoy anyone but then I thought, who gets the right to tell me off? Had first hand experience in that. I start to think that i should change the way I tweet. More valuable information getting out there to my “Followers”. That is the sole reason why people are following each other, right?.

I’ll keep this blog post short. Here’s a tip for you, when you feel extremely annoyed by someone you’re following, step away from the computer and chill somewhere in the corner. It ain’t nice to offense anyone whom you have no relations to.
